Welcome to the blog of The Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Research Institute at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Jim Moran donated $1 million to Holy Cross Hospital for a cardiovascular intensive care unit after undergoing life-saving open heart surgery here in 1988. In 2000, Jim and Jan Moran and JM Family Enterprises contributed $6 million for the construction of the Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Center. The Center specializes in the education, prevention, detection and treatment of cardiac and vascular diseases. Not content to stop there, in 2006 they created a five-year, $26 million challenge - The Moran Challenge - and pledged $10 million to start an institute focusing on early-stage clinical trials in heart and vascular medicine. In essence, The Moran Challenge matches $1.00 for every $1.60 contributed up to $16 million for this vital research.
At the Jim Moran Heat & Vascular Research Institute, we are in a unique position to attract research studies evaluating the most advanced technology and therapies for heart and vascular disease.
By collaborating with industry, academic medical centers and other translational research institutions, Holy Cross Hospital is poised to be a bridge for extending therapeutic advances to its patient base.
This blog was created as a porthole for the community to learn about the exciting things happening in modern technology to help cure and prevent heart and vascular diseases. We are also here to serve as a support system for those suffering from these diseases along with their friends, family and loved ones.

Our goal for doing research is to enhance the quality of life for all patients by furthering scientific and medical advancements. The Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Research Institute at Holy Cross Hospital will join the few community-based, non-teaching medical centers in the country to engage in academic and industry sponsored research collaborations.
